WASILLA — The Wasilla Road Warriors didn’t let a quick Palmer start get in the way of earning their first win of the Alaska American Legion baseball season.
Following a four-run Palmer first, Wasilla scored 12 unanswered runs to post a 12-4 win over the Pioneers Wednesday night at McManus Field in Wasilla.
Six different players drove in runs for the Warriors. Koby Burns led Wasilla with two hits, three RBI and a run scored. Nolan Monaghan and Jimmy Arend added two RBI each. Matt Palmer scored a team-high three runs for Wasilla.
Elias Stratton, Cooper McLaughlin, Wyatt Shults and Zach Sattetly each scored a run for Palmer.
Twins sweep Pioneers
The Kenai Twins scored a doubleheader sweep over the Palmer Pioneers Thursday at Bartlett High School in Anchorage.
Kenai completed the sweep with a 12-8 victory, using a five-run third and four-run fifth. Palmer led 5-3 after two innings.
Cooper McLaughlin led the Pioneers with two RBI and Zach Sattetly scored twice.
Josh Darrow drove in two runs for the Twins. Cody Quelland, JJ Sonnen and Klayton Justice scored two runs each.
Kenai beat Palmer 13-2 in the first game.
Sonnen, Calvin Hillis and Paul Steffenson finished with three hits each for the Twins. Sonnen also drove in three runs.
Wyatt Shults was 2 for 2 to lead the Pioneers at the plate.
