WASILLA — With a walkoff hit and a win on the mound, Jacob Gilbert helped the Wasilla Road Warriors notch a monster sweep of Juneau during a key Alaska American Legion doubleheader Friday in Wasilla.
Gilbert drove in Taylon Ottinger in the 10th inning of the first game of the doubleheader to give the Road Warriors the 4-3 extra-innings win over Juneau. Gilbert followed in the second game with a complete game on the mound during an 11-6 win over Juneau. Gilbert fanned six hitters.
Wasilla, the top squad in the state, improved to 26-5 overall and 16-1 in league play, with the wins. Juneau dropped to 2-4 overall and 12-3 in league play.
Austin Robertson pitched 8 2/3 innings in the first game for the Warriors. Clayton Boyett was 3 for 5 with a triple. Boyett was 2 for 3 with a double in the second game.
