Road Warriors sweep Eagle River

WASILLA — The Wasilla Road Warriors scored a doubleheader sweep of Eagle River Saturday afternoon at Wasilla high School.

Kyle Graham and Ben Werner finished with two hits and two runs each during a 9-4 league win over the Wolves. In the following game, Clancey O’Donnell collected four RBI during a 14-4 victory in the nonleague action of the American Legion baseball doubleheader.

The Road Warriors improved to 8-8 overall and 6-4 in league play with the wins.

Wasilla jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the league win. The Road Warriors led 3-2 in the fourth, but scored six combined runs during the final three innings. Jimmy Arend drove in two runs, and was one of five Warriors with an RBI. Graham and Werner were among seven Warriors to score at least a run.

O’Donnell was 2 for 3 with the four RBI during the second game. Kendell Ruta and Austin Robertson had two runs and two RBI each. Nolan Murphy also had two RBI. Trenton Walters scored twice.

Palmer rallies to win

Palmer rallied to score a win in the last of its four games in Kodiak over the weekend.

The Pioneers used six runs in the top of the seventh to beat Kodiak 13-12.

Palmer trailed 11-5 entering the final inning. Anthony Jones sparked Palmer with a run-scoring single that pushed Kaden Ketchum across the plate. James Nelson and Trace Severson followed with RBI singles. Nelson scored on a ground out. Severson and Ben Alley scored runs late in the inning.

Brady Shults led Palmer with three RBI. Severson and Nelson scored three runs each.

Palmer finished 1-3 during the four-game series. Kodiak used wins of 13-6 and 5-4 to sweep a doubleheader on Saturday. Palmer sufferd a 4-2 loss in the series opener Friday.
