Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Robert A. Gonder, 68, died Oct. 27, 2005, at Alaska Regional Hospital.
Visitation and services were held Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a funeral service at 1 p.m. at Witzleben's Bragaw Chapel, Anchorage. Pastor Phil Mielke of Big Lake Community Chapel officiated. Burial followed at Angelus Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Robert E. Gonder, Jimmy Carlson, Brad Zweifel, Greg Wuitschick, Lynnette Warren and Ira Kessler.
Mr. Gonder was born in Montana on Feb. 20, 1937, and came to Alaska in
1964. He lived in Anchorage and Wasilla, was self employed and belonged to Operating Engineers Local #302.
His family wrote, “He loved Alaska and lived life to his fullest. He will be missed by all, especially his best friends, Britches his dog and his two cats, Mommy Cat and Alley Cat.”
He was preceded in death by his son, Roger Gonder, just last week.
He is survived by his son, Robert E. Gonder of Wasilla; daughter, Carol Jean Medel of Anchorage; three granddaughters, Erin and Laurie Gonder and Ina Medel, and his best friend, Maxine Kelly of Anchorage.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to Friends of Pets, P.O. Box 240981, Anchorage, AK 99524.
Witzleben Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Bragaw Chapel handled the services.
