Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Robert A. Merschman, 46, died of lung cancer at his home May 1, 2004, with his wife by his side.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Valley Church of Christ. Minister Robert Kunning will officiate. His ashes will be scattered at the Big Su River and the Colombia River in Minnesota.
Mr. Merschman was born Nov. 26, 1957, in Bagley, Minn. He became a resident of Alaska in 1980. He had lived in Anchorage before moving to Wasilla.
Mr. Merschman was a member of Valley Church of Christ. His hobbies included hunting and fishing.
His family wrote, "Bob lit up the room with his consistent jokes. He was always ready to hit the mountains or rivers for that hunting or fishing trip."
Mr. Merschman is survived by his wife Bonnie Silvia-Merschman; children Mellissa Merschman, Jason Muslin, Kyle Muslin and Ada Dee; parents LeRoy and Lois Merschman; brothers and their spouses, Buddy and Marlys Merschman, Dennis and Joyce Roux, John and Peggy Merschman; sister Susan Merschman; uncle Gary Merschman; numerous aunts, uncles and grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
