Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Big Lake resident Robert B. Blakemore, 52, died Feb. 28, 2006, at a friend's residence. A visitation took place at 10 a.m. Thursday at Witzleben's Bragaw Chapel, with a service following at 11 a.m. Chaplain Paul Everett officiated.
Mr. Blakemore was born Dec. 30, 1953, in Shelby, N.C. He was in the U.S. Navy, working as a radioman on the USS Richard E. Byrd destroyer. He moved to Alaska in 1994, living in Healy and Big Lake. He worked as a truck driver for Brookledge Horse Transport in Oley, Pa., before moving here.
Mr. Blakemore was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans and Big Lake Lions Club. He loved working on cars.
His family wrote, “God bless. You're going home.”
Mr. Blakemore is survived by his brothers, George Blakemore of Anchorage, Russell Todd Blakemore of Ellenboro, N.C., and Chris Lindsay Blakemore of Cherryville, N.C.; stepmother, Dorothy Blakemore of Shelby, N.C.; aunt and uncle, Bill and Terry Dunn of North Carolina, and cousins, Barbara Sciancalepore of Anchorage, Robyn Spicer and Rose Marie Teese, both of Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
Mr. Blakemore will be buried at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
