Knik resident Mr. Robert Floyd McCourt, 72, died of complications of diabetes July 1, 2003 at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.

A celebration of life memorial gathering will be held at the home of his daughter, Lori Marquis, in Knik . For directions call 373-5666. Saturday, July 12 at 3 p.m.

His ashes will be scattered at a place where he loved to go when four wheeling with his grandchildren on the Iditarod trail.

Mr. McCourt was born September 26, 1930 in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin

He served in the United States Army and the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

Mr. McCourt came to Alaska in 1975. He lived in Anchorage until 1981, then purchased land and moved to Knik, where he lived until his passing.

He was a truck driver for Atlas Van Lines, Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer and drove truck during the construction of the trans-Alaska pipeline from 1975 until his retirement from the Teamsters in 1983. He tended bar at the Knik Bar from 1983 to 1994.

He was a proud member of Teamsters Union 1983.

Mr. McCourt was a member of the Catholic faith.

Mr. McCourt was an avid reader, he loved to play poker, watch Nascar races and football. He also loved to dance.

His family wrote: "He was a loving and honest man who would help anyone out who asked. He had many friends and made them very easily. He will be missed."

Mr. McCourt is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Lane, Tracy Lane and Shawn McCourt, all of Wisconsin; daughters, Deborah Langlois and Lori Marquis of Wasilla and Lisa Walter of Wisconsin. He had 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many, many loving nieces, nephews and loved ones. He is also survived by sisters, Grace McCourt of Anchorage and Marion Stevemer of Wisconsin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be sent to the family in care of Valley Funeral Home & Crematory, 151 E. Herning Avenue, Wasilla, Alaska 99654.
