Robert T. Rogers Sr. of Wasilla died quietly at home on April 19, 2004. Mr. Rogers was born April 4, 1928, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to Ed and Lotti Rogers. At the age of 17 he entered the U.S. Navy, then later joined the Air Force.
It was a dream of his to one day make his home in Alaska, so in 1970 he made the move from Florida with his wife, son and daughter. In 1977, Mr. Rogers established Rogers Realty. He was a former director of the Valley Board of Realtors and well known for his determination in helping families and investors see their dreams come true.
Mr. Rogers dedicated his life to sobriety, and helped found the Alano Club in Wasilla. Over the years he sponsored dozens of troubled men and women through Alcoholics Anonymous -- emotionally, financially and through mentoring. He opened his home, his heart and his wallet to those wishing a better life for themselves and their families. He will best be remembered for his racy sense of humor and his tenacity when faced with adversity. He loved dancing, family dinners, large family gatherings, trips in his motorhome, and the cooking of both his daughters-in-law.
He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife Mary Rogers; sons Bob Rogers Jr. and Bill Rogers of Wasilla, daughter Nancy Woods of Sacramento, Calif.; brother Dr. Bill Rogers of Lebanon, Tenn.; daughters-in-laws Gail Aveyard-Rogers and Terri Terreault-Rogers; grandchildren "Bobby III," Chris, Don, Ryan, Keith, Tiana, Jenny, Joe and Melissa. He is further survived by his great-grandchildren Erik, Derek, Kira and Jordan.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. April 25 at the VFW Post on Lakeshore Drive in Wasilla. All are invited, with a potluck to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to the Alano Club in Wasilla.
