Robert W Mitchell, a three-year resident of the Palmer Veterans and Pioneers Home, went to be with Jesus on September 13, 2018. He was born in 1931 in New York City. When he was 14 his family moved to Pennsylvania. After high school, Bob enlisted in the Army and served during the conflict in Korea. After marriage to Elaine in 1955, they moved to Toledo Ohio, where he worked for a heavy equipment dealer.

A customer from Alaska's North Slope convinced him there was work available in Alaska if he came up. He had dreamed of Alaska during his youth so that was all it took. First, they homesteaded in the Matanuska Valley for 3 years, then Bob took a job at a White Alice site in Tanana where they lived for 25 years. A life-changing event for Bob occurred in March of 1974 when he accepted Jesus as his Savior.

Following retirement, they settled in Nenana for 28 years before moving to the Pioneer Home in Palmer. It's a beautiful location and the loving nursing staff has made it truly a good home for them.

A service to remember and honor Bob will be held on Friday, Sept. 21st, at 1:30 PM at the Alaska Veterans and Pioneer Home, 250 E. Fireweed, Palmer, Alaska.

There will also be a memorial service in Nenana on Saturday, Sept. 22nd, at 2:00 PM at the Mitchell A. Demientieff Tribal Hall on 802 G. Street. A graveside service and a light meal will follow.
