Romans Road Part 7

The “Romans Road” is the name given to God’s plan of salvation that is detailed in the Biblical book of Romans. The plan describes the interactions between God and mankind. First God created a perfect world for mankind to dwell in and enjoy a loving relationship Him (Romans 1:18-23).

Mankind responded by rejecting God’s authority. They were disobedient to his instruction – they sinned (Roamsn3:23). Sin has consequences, it brought both physical and spiritual death into God’s creation (Romans 6:23).

Mankind could not redeem themselves – they could not restore their broken relationship with God. Therefore, God responded to our helpless situation by sending Jesus to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins (Romans 5:6-8). God offers forgiveness and restoration as a gift, if we will accept it.

Man must respond to God’s gift of salvation by repenting of our sins and then declaring our faith in Him. Repentance is a “change of mind.” We change from embracing sin and rejecting God to rejecting sin and embracing God. It is God’s kindness, shown by His in dying for us when we did not love Him, that leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4).

The second requirement is detailed in Romans 10:9, “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Please note that we are acknowledging Jesus as both our Savior and our Lord.

By raising Jesus from the dead God showed that the price was paid for our sins and we can be saved. By rising from the dead, Jesus showed that He was also going to be the Lord of those that believe, “Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord” (Romans 14:9).

Confessing with our mouths that Jesus is Lord means we commit to obey Him. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). If we continue to disobey His instruction, He has the right to ask us, “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46).

By acknowledging Jesus as Lord we also recognize His authority to direct our lives. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). Turning our lives over to Him, is when we truly start to live, “For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 16:25).

Jesus was sent to earth by the Father to be our Savior and Lord. Jesus died and rose again in order to become our Savior and Lord. The Holy spirit call us to repent of our sins and to acknowledge that Jesus is our Savior and Lord, “No one can say. ‘Jesus is Lord,’ except by the Holy Spirit” (` Corinthians 12:3).

The final step in the Road reassures us that we are at peace with God.
