Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Mr. Ronald Lee Richmond, 52, died Nov. 15, 2003, at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Ore., of congestive heart failure.
Mr. Richmond was born July 10, 1951, in Portland. He graduated high school and served in the Army from 1969-1971. He was a Vietnam veteran. He moved to Alaska in 1975 and resided in Anchorage from 1975-1981 and then moved to Palmer in 1981.
He worked as a gas station attendant, surveyor for the Alaska Pipeline from 1975-1983, Kenai Supply as a counter salesman from 1983-1987, United Building Supply as a counter salesman from 1989-1991, Alaska Industrial Hardware as an outside salesman in Wasilla, and as the Palmer Correctional Center tool crib supervisor from 2002 until the time of his death.
Mr. Richmond was affiliated with the Farm Loop Christian Center in Palmer.
His hobbies included fishing (he loved salmon fishing in Seward and halibut fishing in Homer), woodworking was very calming to him, and golfing in Settler's Bay.
His family said, "Ron touched the lives of many with music and singing throughout the community. He was a good husband and father."
Mr. Richmond is survived by his wife of 22 years, Chris; son Lance Cpl. Dustin Marine Reserve, E. CO. 4th Recon Bn., Anchorage; daughters Becki and Karla of Palmer; brothers Russell of Palmer, Douglas of Republic, Wash.; sister and brother-in-law Charlotte and Gary Purcell of Vancouver, Wash.; uncle Bryan Purcell of Vancouver, Wash.; Christina and Aaron Wilder of Vancouver, Wash.; CPO Kapper Richmond, Marines Sniper out of Twenty-Nine Palms, Calif., and Christopher Richmond of Olympia, Wash.
There was a service on Nov. 20 at Farm Loop Christian Center in Palmer at 6 p.m.
Interment will be at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Oregon Health and Science Center, 3181 SW Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97239-3098, Cardiac Unit, in remembrance of Ronald Richmond.
