Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Sutton resident Rosser Payson Smith, 62, died Jan. 3, 2002 at home in his sleep.
Mr. Smith was born Dec. 13, 1939, in Hood River, Ore. He moved to Alaska in 1969 and had lived in Southeast and Southcentral Alaska. He worked as a contractor on the Alaska Pipeline and was a cook at the Pines Restaurant in north Anchorage. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Navy.
Rosser's family remembers him "as a handyman, always working on a project, building another shelf somewhere," and, "He had a joke a minute. Everyone who knew him laughed around him."
Mr. Smith is survived by his daughters, Galena, Rachael and Brenda, and several grandchildren.
Burial services for Mr. Smith were Jan. 11 at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
