As part of a seven-decade old program dubbed ‘The Roving Rabbis’, two Rabbinical students are visiting the Mat-Su Valley this August as part of their community outreach training. The young Rabbis-in-training will be spending their summer on the road, sharing their love for Jewish life and bringing positivity, meaning and spiritual guidance wherever they go, for everyone they meet. Rabbis Levi Levertov, of Austin, Texas, and Yisroel Treitel, of Montreal, Canada, will conduct their visits during the period of August 2- August 21. Throughout their 3-week visit, Levertov and Treitel will be reaching out to members of the community in the region - most often in one-on-one home visitations - listening, talking and teaching as they seek to reinvigorate people’s spiritual connections and bring messages of goodness and kindness to all.

For the rabbis-in-training, this summer assignment will also provide an invaluable on-the-ground experience in outreach and the specific challenges of smaller Jewish communities, as well as a unique appreciation for the diverse composition and needs of the communities in the Mat-Su. Conceived by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson of righteous memory, in the early 1940s, the visitation program has been credited with bolstering and rejuvenating countless communities and individuals around the world. “The goal is to make Judaism and its universal values of doing acts of good deeds and respect for humanity accessible and relevant to every individual, wherever they may be,” says Rabbi Mendy Greenberg, director and founder of the Mat-Su Jewish Center in Wasilla. The program has seen rabbinical students visit more than 100 countries around the globe and every one of the United States, this year 350 Chabad-Lubavitch rabbinical students have been dispatched to Jewish communities in Asia, Europe, the Americas and beyond.
