Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Roy "Andy" Anderson, 88, of Pierre, S.D., died Sunday, March 20, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital. A service was held March 24 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre, S.D.
Mr. Anderson was born Jan. 28, 1917, in Longville, Minn. He worked in the laundry and bakery at the hospital in Minneapolis where he met and married his first wife, Esther Jensen. He fought in World War II, worked the iron mines in Minnesota, logged in Montana and ran Andy's Gas in Pierre, S.D.
After that, he ran a tire shop in Montana, did construction work in Colorado, Wyoming and North Dakota and did carpenter work on the Alaska pipeline.
He retired in Wasilla and later built a home in Hope, Idaho.
He then went full-time RVing. After losing his first wife in 1990, he married Sherleigh Dark from Idaho. They returned to Pierre. He had macular degeneration and emphysema. They lived in their own home until 2004, when they moved to Kelly's II.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Esther; second wife, Sherleigh; parents and seven brothers and sisters.
He leaves behind his son, Gordon, and wife, Kay, of Pierre; daughter, Mary Knutson and her husband, Bill, of Wasilla; one granddaughter, Darcy McGuigan and husband, Charles, of Pierre; six grandsons, Ken Anderson and wife, Robin, of Cupertino, Calif., Rick Jacobs of Wasilla, Tom Jacobs of Wasilla, Charles Jacobs and wife, Lorra, of Trapper Creek, Randy Knutson and wife, Melissa, of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Matt Knutson and wife, Terri, of San Fernandino Beach, Fla.; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
