Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Russell Donald Fairfield, 80, Big Lake, died at his home Aug. 24, 2005, from complications suffered after surgery. In respect of his wishes, no services will be held.
Mr. Fairfield was born Dec. 12, 1924, in the Eldridge Township of North Dakota. He attended school through the eighth grade. He moved to Anchorage in 1951. In 1966, he began working for the state government in An-chorage as a surplus operator. After retirement from the state of Alaska in 1986, he moved to Big Lake.
Mr. Fairfield enjoyed fishing and boating.
His family wrote, "Pete (as he was known) liked to travel Alaska in the motor home. He enjoyed seeing different places and things. He liked being around his family and friends and enjoyed hosting big cookouts and playing lawn games. His biggest thrill was playing games and being outside with his granddaughter, Karrisa Randall, known as the light of his life." His parents, James and Myrtle Fairfield, four brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Fairfield, and stepson, Chad Randall, both of Big Lake; granddaughter, Karrisa Randall of North Pole and a sister, Wilma, of North Dakota.
Memorial donations may be made to Account 1101319879 at any Wells Fargo Bank branch or in care of Vera Fairfield, P.O. Box 521785, Big Lake, 99652. Arrangements were with Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
