Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Ruth A. Chmielowski, 64, died at Valley Hospital in Palmer on Jan. 21, 2002.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at the AMVETS Post No. 9 in Wasilla.
Mrs. Chmielowski was born Aug. 16, 1937 in Pullman, Wash., the daughter of Thomas and Annabelle Faulkner. She attended and completed her asssociate's degree in business administration at Washington State University.
She came to Alaska in 1973 first residing in Anchorage, then Glennallen and then Wasilla until the time of her death. She had worked as a store manager at various grocery stores in Alaska until disability forced her retirement.
She was a member of the women's auxiliary of AMVETS Post No. 9, 1591 Crest Foris St. in Wasilla. and spent her free time in such activities as making ceramics, crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her four grandchildren.
Her family said, "She was loved by all who knew her. Her bright smile and loving way will always be remembered."
Mrs. Chmielowski is survived by her husband, Joe Chmielowski of Wasilla; sons and daughter-in-laws, Ron and Pam McLean, Mark and Dee Mclean, and daughter, Evelynn Lightwood of Washington state, grandchildren Ron, Laura, Nikole and Roman, all of whom reside in Washington State.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory.
