Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Ruth Burlison, 74, died at the Alaska Native Medical Center on Dec. 18, 2001.
Mrs. Burlison was born in Motherwood Point, Alaska, on Aug. 12, 1929. She lived in Buckland, Alaska, and surrounding villages during her childhood years.
In 1958 she lived in Sitka, in 1959 in Anchorage, and in 1961 in Nome. She left the state in 1961 and returned in November of 1993, settling in Palmer.
Ruth was a homemaker. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting and bead work. Her family remembers Ruth as, "a kind, loving mother. She put others before herself. We will miss her greatly." Mrs. Burlison was a member of the Palmer Church of the Nazarene.
Mrs. Burlison is survived by her daughters, Nora LaBarge, of Auburn, Wash., Alma Short, of Palmer, Annie Swan, of Palmer; sons, Garry Burlison, Jr., of Palmer, Hugh Burlison, of Palmer, Dean Burlison, of Enumclaw, Wash., and David Burlison, of Sumner, Wash.; and grandchildren, Ronnie, Amber, Justin, Crystal, Michael, Sara, Buddy, Heather, Wesley, Melissa, Michelle and Michael. Ruth is also survived by her sister, Annie Savok, and her brother, Evans Thomas Sr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Annie Marie Burlison and brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for Mrs. Burlison were Friday, Dec. 21, at the Palmer Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Micky Boyer officiated. Pallbearers included Eric Swan, Garry Burlison Jr., Dean Burlison and other family members. Additional services will be held in Buckland at a later date.
Interment will be at Buckland Cemetery.
