Ryan Redington wins Aurora 50/50

WASILLA — Knik's Ryan Redington won the Aurora Dog Mushers’ Aurora 50/50 sled dog race on Sunday in Big Lake, finishing with a two-day time of 9 hours, 49 minutes, 15 seconds to beat Girdwood's Nicolas Petit (10:20:05) by more than a half hour.

Kasilof's Mydzung Osmar finished third in 10:55:20, besting Big Lake's Rohn Buser by just over four minutes.

Redington was the fastest musher on Saturday, taking a 17-minute lead over Petit after the first 59 miles of the 118-mile race. The Callin' Trail Kennel owner earned $1,560 for the win, Petit received $1,170, Osmar cashed in for $780 and Buser picked up $390. Seven other finishers got $100 each for their efforts in the race, which was sponsored by Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram of Wasilla and Underdog Feeds.
