Safety is your responsibility

To the editor:

In reference to the letter by Rebecca Ruby wherein she sniveled about the 911 response to an injured snowboarder.

I love it when people like her display their ignorance for all to see.

Did she consider that the young man was not properly clothed for the weather? Or that the older brother failed to show leadership and ensure that proper clothing was worn? Or that given the weather that day, they should not have been up there to start with?

Mother Nature does not tolerate fools. Oh, and I have a news flash for you — the troopers are not responsible for your safety. You are responsible for your own safety and that of your family.

My guess is there were two, maybe three troopers on duty that afternoon to cover an area from Talkeetna to Sheep Mountain and south to the Susitna. And, they were most likely already involved with other “emergencies,” given the weather and road conditions that day.

If you must blame someone, put the blame where it belongs — on the person(s) who went into the field unprepared and unaware.
