WASILLA — The Salvation Army’s international leaders, General Brian and Commissioner Rosalie Peddle are making their way to Alaska June 14.

This will be the first time an active general has visited Alaska since The Salvation Army established its presence in the state in 1898, according to a recent press release.

There will be a service held on the day of Brian and Peddle's arrival at the Anchorage Corps Community Center. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.

As the 21st General of The Salvation Army, General Peddle works to provide vision and spiritual leadership to the ordained ministers and members involved in this worldwide organization.

"The Salvation Army Alaska Division is pleased to host the General and Commissioner Peddle and looks forward to sharing the beauty and culture of the state and its people with them," Salvation Army Alaska Division communications manager Natalie Clendenin stated in the press release.

The Salvation Army is currently serving in 136 countries, offering support and resources to the most vulnerable in each community, according to the press release.

The Alaska Division of The Salvation Army has 17 Corps Community Centers along with three Service Extension units to serve communities without a physical facility.

The Salvation Army offered practical, emotional, and spiritual support to over 83,000 individuals in 2021 thanks to the support of donors supporting the organization's mission to help those in need around the clock.

In 2020, The Salvation Army served 298,758 meals, distributed 37,750 toys and gifts to kids in need and provided over 8,600 contacts with emotional and spiritual support, helping nearly 77,000 Alaskans statewide.
