Former Alaska resident Sandra Joan Smith died in Salem, Ore., June 25, 2004.
Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 4, 1944, in Minnesota, and was raised in Alaska. She moved to Salem, Ore., in 1986.
Mrs. Smith was a catering executive at Marriott and worked as the head cook at Swegle Middle School of Salem. She also worked at Bush Park School and McKay High School, both in Salem. She raised exotic birds.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her daughter, Jody Jo Smith, in 1968; father, George Engelmann Sr., in 1987, and brother, Dennis Engelmann, in 1993.
Survivors include her husband, Jack, of Palmer; sons, James Dean Smith of Palmer, Billy Jack Smith of Salem, and Jack and wife Debbie Burnett of Anchorage; grandsons, J.D. Smith of Salem, Jackie D. Burnett of Anchorage, Beaudean Smith of Salem and Billy M. Smith of Salem; granddaughters, Jaci Jo Smith of Salem, Katie Smith of Salem, Breill Burnett of Anchorage, Cindy Lou Smith and Summer Dawn Archer, both of Salem; brothers, George J. and James L. Engelmann of Salem, and mother, Mary Engelmann, also of Salem.
Private family services will be held. Arrangements were made by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service of Salem.
