PALMER — Following his team’s 18-point win over Kodiak Friday evening, Colony head coach Tom Berg talked Kodiak’s knack for making things difficult for the Knights.

“I think it’s a better matchup with us,” Berg said. “Similar style. Most of the time they want to play quick, so do we. I think that’s part of it.”

Saturday, Kodiak, once again, didn’t make it easy for the Knights.

Colony needed a late run to get past Kodiak 63-33. The Knights used a monster second half to turn a seven-point deficit into a 30-point blowout. Colony outscored the Bears 48-10 in the second half and 25-1 in the fourth quarter. Kodiak led 22-15 at halftime, and carried the advantage until there was about three minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Freshman Patrick McMahon scored 16 of his game-high 18 points in the second half. Eleven came in the fourth quarter. Sullivan Menard added seven second-half points, and 12 in the game.

The Knights completed the two-game Northern Lights Conference sweep in Saturday’s win.

The Colony girls also swept Kodiak in a two-game series, beating Kodiak 59-16. Haylee Duguid scored 14 for the Knights. Alex Carlton added eight.

Chugiak edged Wasilla 34-33 in the semifinals Friday.
