Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Saundra Jean Blackmore, 70, died at her Brinnon, Wash., home on Jan. 12, 2006, following a nine-year battle with cancer.
A private service was held at the family home.
Mrs. Blackmore was born Sept. 9, 1935, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Lawrence and Hazel (Herst) LaFleur. She was raised in Wilmington, Calif., and married Calvin M. Blackmore on July 3, 1967, in Las Vegas.
The couple moved to Wolverine Lake in 1976 and lived there until moving to Brinnon, Wash., in 1990.
In Alaska, Mrs. Blackmore worked at Christi's Art Gallery in Wasilla, enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and spending time with friends.
Survivors include her husband, Calvin, of Brinnon, Wash.; sons, Calvin and Jodi Blackmore of Seabeck, Wash., Rick and Danna Newman, Redding, Calif., and Carl Newman, Wisconsin; daughters, Marla Blackmore, Vancouver, Wash., and Cher'e Newman, Wasilla; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Blackmore was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Donna LaFleur.
Arrangements were handled by Kosec Funeral Home & Crematory in Port Townsend, Wash.
