School district brass shouldn’t use e-mail system to slam unions

To the editor:

As an employee for the Mat-Su School District, I can understand the district deciding not to let the Classified Employees Association and Mat-Su Education Association use the district e-mail system to send out CEA or MSEA news.

Having made this decision though, I do not understand how the leadership of the school district can justify using the same e-mail system to send a message specifically targeting the MSEA and why they do not deserve a pay raise. In essence, this was a “political” message in the same category in which the CEA and MSEA were prohibited from sending.

The public and the members of the MSEA have the right to know who authored and authorized this message.

The e-mail account (Postmaster) used to send this message must be authorized by someone in a leadership position.

As a retired military member, I was never a strong supporter of unions. However, upon seeing the apparent tactics the leaders of the school district are deploying, I am now rethinking my position concerning unions.

As a final thought, this message was sent as a priority message (sender and subject line highlighted in red). Why?
