In a recent Frontiersman news story covering the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District (MSBSD) school board vote regarding their vote on the Library Citizens’ Advisory Committee (LCAC), John Notestine, the new MSBSD Public Information Officer, offered clarifying information and that the LCAC was not renewed for the next fiscal year.
In a communication with Notestine, he said that the LCAC was not renewed for the next year, pursuant to what was written in their support statement, which read, “…and finally, that the Board does not renew the Library Citizens’ Advisory Committee to FY 2025, which was approved."
The writing on the motion that said the motion was to approve the Library Citizens Advisory Committee FY 2025.
He said that the two remaining titles, ‘Empire of Storms,’ and ‘Kingdom of Ash,’ will be remanded to the administration for additional review to determine obscenity and age-appropriateness, and that the titles are currently in circulation but unavailable to students pending the resolution of the District’s book review process.
He also said that the remaining 15 titles will be removed from consideration as challenged books until they are available or purchased in accordance with library book purchasing procedures.
