Scoutmaster Duane Robinson attended a ceremony April 28 at Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City, Neb., where the Arbor Day Foundation honored Palmer Boy Scout Troop 367 and Pack 367 for their outstanding contributions to tree planting, conservation and stewardship.
Palmer-based Troop 367 and Pack 367 were among 16 individuals and organizations recognized at the annual Arbor Day Awards at Lied Lodge and Conference Center last weekend.
Troop 367 and Pack 367 received a 2012 Arbor Day Celebration Award for representing the spirit of the tree planter’s holiday by taking the lead on making the community’s annual Arbor Day celebration a model for the nation.
In 2011, 100 people came out for Palmer’s celebration from a variety of organizations. The youngest participant was a 7-year-old Tiger Cub who planted trees with a 97-year-old World War II veteran.
In recent years, Troop 367 and Pack 367 members have focused on establishing a Veteran’s Grove in the heart of downtown Palmer and on the grounds of the Alaska Veterans and Pioneers Home.
