WASILLA — A daylong manhunt ended Saturday afternoon after a wanted suspect and a woman he was with were found alive.
Alaska State Troopers spent much of Saturday searching for the two people. Troopers described the man as a “dangerous suspect” after he fled his third-party custodian supervision and disappeared with a woman who they said was in “grave danger" by being with him.
According to troopers, the two arrived at the Mat-Su West trooper post Saturday afternoon. Trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said she didn't immediately have any other details about either person's condition or the circumstances of their arrival at the Mat-Su West trooper post.
"Both of them are alive," Peters said.
Both were taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.
The man, 23-year-old Jordan King, of Wasilla, was reportedly in an argument with a Shawna Robb, 40, early Saturday morning at a location in the Fairview Loop area. When troopers arrived to investigate, King and Robb were gone, as was Robb’s 2012 green Ford truck. Saturday morning, Troopers told the public Robb was in danger and asked for the public’s help locating the two.
"This is something that is of very high priority," Peters said at the time.
Peters said Robb's truck was found Saturday morning in the Meadow Lakes area. A search including canine units and a helicopter was launched, and a large number of trooper vehicles could be seen Saturday near the intersection of King Arthur Drive and Gunflint Trail Drive in Meadow Lakes.
"We are very concerned," Peters said as the situation unfolded. "We have no idea where these two people are."
After the two were found, troopers thanked the media and anyone who helped help the search effort.
"AST would like to thank the volunteer search and rescue community for its invaluable service and dedication," read the agency's online post about the incident.
According to a Frontiersman story, King was arrested in December and charged with numerous crimes after police say he broke into a home on Fairview Loop, struck an unidentified woman in the head with a handgun, tried to rape her and fled the scene. He led troopers on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle before eventually being captured.
Troopers have not said whether Robb was the same woman King allegedly assaulted in December.
Court documents show King is free on bail awaiting trial on charges stemming from the December incident, including first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, attempted sexual assault, reckless driving, failure to stop at the direction of a police officer and vehicle theft. A kidnapping charge was dropped by prosecutors.
As of Saturday night, no new charges had been filed in relation to the day's events, which troopers said remained under investigation.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story misstated the felony charge against King that was dismissed by prosecutors.
