Seasonal vehicle weight restrictions in effect

PALMER — Those in charge of maintaining the roads have put weight restrictions in place that could affect Valley motorists.

According to a press release from the state of Alaska, effective until further notice, state roads in the Mat-Su Borough from Mile 55 of the Glenn Highway south and south of Mile 163 of the Parks Highway are restricted to 75 percent of a vehicle’s allowable axel limit.

The Glenn Highway from Mile 55 — Moose Creek — to Mile 118 isn’t weight-restricted.

The Parks Highway from Church Road to Mile 163 is restricted to 85 percent of the maximum load.

Vine Road is restricted to 75 percent of the legal axle load. The Mat-Su Borough has stricter requirements. Starting April 9, borough roads are limited to 50 percent of the maximum axle weight.

“Weight restriction exemptions that apply to (state) roads shall also apply to borough roads,” the borough’s announcement reads.

Cities like Palmer, Houston and Wasilla might have different rules.
