PALMER — The Alaska State Fair may be gone, but the Palmer Art Walk is still on.
Despite the rainy days, the Palmer Art Walk will celebrate this month with a music scavenger hunt that will win you an extra entry into this month's Art Walk raffle, sponsored by Side Kicks Gift Store. The prize this month has a value of $140 and includes music, art, clothes and other juicy tidbits.
Along the walk Saturday, you can enjoy artists exhibits, live music, dancing performances and sales, all while meeting new people and sharing some laughs.
Arkose Brewery, 650 E. Steel Loop
Tap into your inner artist while Arkose taps into its tap lines for its popular Beer Meets Canvas event from 2 to 4 p.m. Paint freely to this month's theme of "Music," or bring your own inspiration. For $30 you get one pint and all the art supplies needed to create your own masterpiece. This event is open only to those 21 years or older and pre-registration is encouraged. The hotel will host the Greater Palmer Chamber of Commerce as it presents a history of the Palmer Water Tower in conjunction with its Water Towers on Parade event. Be sure to stop by to get a list of where their water tower art pieces are located and learn more about the auction next month.

The photography of Deroy Brandt. Jennifer Boger-Woodward and two of her students will perform a belly dance showcase featuring Turkish- and Egyptian-style group numbers as well as solos, incorporating modern and other fine fusions with Middle Eastern-style belly dance. This is a free event. Showcase begins at 5 p.m.

This month the Palmer Museum celebrates Japanese culture with its new exhibit “The Gift of Friendship,” a brief history of the Palmer-Saroma Sister City relationship told through items in the Palmer Saroma Collection. In conjunction with the exhibit, the museum will host members of Palmer Saroma Kai during the Art Walk, who will offer visitors a chance to participate in their 1,000 Paper Crane folding project and taste tea. In addition, as a special treat, a member of this year's Saroma delegation will play the kodo, the national instrument of Japan, from 4 to 7 p.m.
