To the editor:
I am inquiring about the north end of Michigan Road in Willow. Recently the borough had Western Excavating widen the road from the intersection at Shirley Lake Road. The stopped at the intersection with Lake Shore, I think it’s called. There is still 1,200 feet of Michigan Road that is unimproved. They surveyed it and cut down the trees about five years ago and then did nothing.
My neighbor at the end of Michigan has fought the access problem since day one. He pays taxes like everyone else in the borough and gets no service on the road. They will not even plow it in winter. They could have at least spent a day with the dozer when working on the road here and widened the pig trail so there was room to plow snow.
This family has raised two fine daughters there and are now facing loosing their home to foreclosure due to the constant time and expense in keeping their home accessible all winter. They have to own and maintain a separate snowplow. Fuel for the plow and time spent on it. My husband has donated many hours as well with a loader helping him push snow back in winter.
So now they will be moving and leaving an empty house for vandals, in large part due to the road access. And to make it harder for them, they have to use a generator as the electricity has never been extended due to the road never being improved. I know they have gone to the borough over the years and got promises of the road getting improved next year but too many next years have gone by.
If you are the person who can get them some help, then I and my other neighbors would be grateful to have these folks stay in their home. If you are not the person, then I trust you can forward to the right person.
Thank you for your time.
