ANCHORAGE — The Senate Finance Subcommittee on Education and Early Development is accepting public comment beginning at 4:15 p.m., Oct. 29 and 30 on the direction of public education in Alaska.
The meetings both days are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Anchorage Legislative Information Office, 716 W. 4th Ave., Suite 220.
Tuesday, the meeting begins with presentations on how one state became a top performing state and from a Canadian province whose education system is now ranked at the top.
Wednesday, the committee will explore alternative options for education already in place around the state, including Interior Distance Education of Alaska in the Galena School District, Mt. Edgecumbe High School, statewide options offered by the University of Alaska (particularly in science and engineering), dual-credit options by Western Oregon University and choices in the Anchorage and Mat-Su school districts.
