The Frontiersman would like to feature any news on the progress of former Valley athletes as they compete on the collegiate or professional level.

If your child or former athlete is taking their athletic skills to the next level, please let us know. We are interested in any news, honors, or achievements pertaining to our "Hometown Heroes."

Summer youth hockey

The Big Lake Hockey Association is offering a summer hockey program at the Brett Ice Arena beginning Monday, June 16.

The clinic will be run by coaching director Jamie Smith and the coaches of the Big Lake Hockey Association.

The clinics will be on a weekly basis from June 16- Aug. 6.

The cost is $80, and only the first 15 athletes per level will be accepted.

Curtis Menard II

Memorial Run

The second annual Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Run will take place June 2.

The run is open to everyone. Registration forms are available throughout the community.

There will be a 10-kilometer run and a 5-kilometer run and walk.

All funds raised will benefit the Wasilla Rotary Club and the Children's Place.

Umps needed

Valley women's running club

The Valley Women's Running Club is now meeting twice a week.

The club meets at the Palmer High track at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

USA Hockey clinic

John Hill, head coach of the Division I, University of Alaska Anchorage ice hockey team, is hosting a USA Hockey level IV clinic.

This clinic is for the youth hockey coaches in the community. Coach Hill is bringing up several college-level coaches to present information to the many youth coaches from throughout the state. This is a USA Hockey required clinic and it will be the only level IV clinic held in Alaska this year.

The clinic is May 30-June 1 on the UAA campus. The cost of the clinic is $270 and $285 if you register after May 15.
