HOMER — After a close loss to Grace Christian School last week, Houston head coach Steve Henderson said he believes Hawks senior Matt Barron is the best player in the Southcentral Conference.
Friday, Barron continued to reinforce his coach’s belief. After burning Grace for 27 points last week, Barron poured in a game-high 33 to lead the Hawks to a 67-62 win over Homer at Homer High School.
Barron finished 11 for 24 from the field, knocked down a pair of threes and was 9 for 11 from the line in the win. He also posted game highs in rebounds (nine) and steals (seven).
Jace Taylor added nine points and Jeff Baird chipped in seven for Houston.
In girls’ action, Homer took advantage of a slow Houston start and scored a 50-39 win over the Hawks. Homer led 20-10 at halftime, but outscored Houston by only a point in the second half.
