Joel Carrick's decision to take part in Palmer High School's production of "Guys and Dolls" came down to one thing - the ability to use his voice.
Carrick plays Nathan Detroit, and he said it's a perfect role for him.
"It's my first big role. I did 'Bye Bye Birdie' last year, and I love doing musicals, so I tried out," Carrick said. "I love to sing. If I didn't get to sing in this, I probably wouldn't be here."
Carrick said getting into the role of Nathan Detroit has been fun.
"We've been working for two months, and at first it was tough," Carrick said. "But once things started coming together and flowing, it's been fun ever since. That's when it gets cool."
Carrick said he won't be nervous for the final production of his high school career, partly because of how hard he's worked during rehearsals.
"I can do this with my eyes closed by now," he said.
