Seniors lead Colony girls to win

PALMER -- With a 20-20 tie at halftime, the Colony and Palmer girls' basketball squads were each looking for a spark to push itself past the opponent.

On a night when Colony honored its seniors, a pair of Knight seniors provided the spark Colony needed. Senior guard Siena Locke scored seven of the first nine points and senior post Jessica Dault scored 10 of her game-high 19 points in the third quarter to help the Knights break the 20-20 tie and earn a 52-39 win over Palmer at Colony High School Tuesday.

Locke opened the second half by converting a pair of steals into easy buckets, and drew a foul and nailed the bonus on the second attempt.

Locke also buried a three-pointer during the 7-2 Colony run.

Dault used her presence inside to provide the power for the Knights during the run. The forward converted three attempts on the glass and hit a shot from the top of the key in the third quarter.

Palmer led 11-10 after the first quarter, thanks to seven straight Keisha Hooker points to start the game. Hooker hit two shots inside and a third from behind the arc to give Palmer the early lead. Hooker finished with a team-high 14 points.

Palmer's leading scorer Emily Bolling, hit four free throws in the first quarter and finished with 10 points.

Dault was one of three Knight seniors to hit double digits in the contest. Locke scored 13 points and Kristina Klapperich added 12.

Balanced attack lifts Houston over Su Valley

Rachael Stewart and Whitney Conn each scored 10 points to lead the Houston Hawks to a 54-31 Region III-3A win over the Susitna Valley Rams at Houston High School Tuesday.

Nine of the 10 players who saw action in the contest scored for

Houston.

Conn and Stewart each scored six points during a 20-5 first quarter run for Houston. The Hawks jumped out to a 26-11 lead at halftime.

Stewart also grabbed seven rebounds for Houston. Nori Dixon registered a game-high eight rebounds for the Hawks.

Katie Terstegge led Su Valley with a game-high 15 points.
