Seniors lead Hawks in sweep of Homer

WASILLA — Aspen Ruth enjoyed a big night during her final basketball game on her home floor.

The Houston senior scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Hawks to a 44-15 girls’ basketball victory over the Homer Mariners Friday at Houston High.

Ruth shot 9 of 16 from the floor, and 2 of 3 from beyond the arc. She added four rebounds and three steals. Taylor Moore chipped in 11 points in the victory.

Another Houston senior, Ben Bitler, celebrated the school’s senior night with a double-double during a 44-40 boys’ victory over the Mariners. Bitler finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Kolby Taylor added 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

Seahawks sweep Huskies

Hunter Kratz hit four three-pointers to lead Seward to a 63-29 boys’ basketball win over Redington Friday night at Redington Jr./Sr. High.

Kratz scored a game-best 18 points in the victory. Rhett Seiverts added a dozen.

Brody Brooks led the Huskies with 10. Brian Amirault added nine.

Ashley Jackson scored 13 points to lead Seward to a 43-32 girls victory over the Huskies. Courtney Crockett led Redington with a game-high 22 points.
