An independent group of 13 is leaving from Nenana on Feb. 22 and will arrive in Nome approximately March 10.
This year’s trip was brought back to life by Robert Forto of Willow for his Master’s Degree Project.
In his passion to revive the expedition he collaborated with Stephanie Masters Johnson from Nome to make this project a reality. There are five mushers and eight snowmachiners. Each Musher has their own Snowmachiner hauling gear & breaking trail. There will also be a veterinarian and doctor on the expedition. The group will follow the traditional commemorative Serum Run Trail.
They will be showing the ATTLA documentary in most villages we stop at in the evening for the community.
In the morning we will be offering free vaccine clinics for their dogs, and will be staying in schools, bush cabins, arctic oven tents and roadhouses along the way. The route is: Nenana, Old Minto, Beaver Point Lodge, Manley, Tanana, Bone Yard Cabin, Trapper Cabin, Ruby, Galena, Nulato, Kaltag, Old Woman Cabin, Unalakleet, Shaktoolik, Koyuk, Elim, White Mountain, Safety/Nuuk, Nome. The distance is 674 miles.
