WASILLA — At 8:44 p.m. on March 13, MATCOM dispatch received a call about a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Douglas William Stroble of Wasilla that fled the scene of a hit and run incident and later located Stroble’s vehicle near Glenkerry Drive in Wasilla at 10:49 p.m.

Another call was made from a nearby residence a short distance from where the vehicle was found and Alaska State Troopers responded by dispatching the Special Emergency Response Team to set up a perimeter and begin negotiations. At approximately 10:49 p.m. in a clear hostage situation and with continued and imminent threat to the house residents including children, AST fired upon Stroble, resulting in his death.

The AST and Alaska Bureau of Investigation Major Crimes assumed case responsibility and noted use of controlled substances by the suspect as a likely contributing factor. After 72 hours, AST released the names of the officers involved. The law enforcement officers that utilized their service weapons during the officer involved shooting are two-year AST veterans Caleb Lloyd and Eyzik Sporleder, seven-year AST veteran Matthew Kessler, eight-year AST veteran Timothy Wolff, 13-year AST veteran Sergeant Daron Cooper, and six-year Wasilla Police Department veteran David Burtch.
