Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Butte resident Sharon E. Staggs-Saulsbury, 62, died from a long-term illness on July 14, 2005, at her home. Her ashes will be scattered over Castle Mountain in Chickaloon.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 23, at the Chickaloon Community Center.
A potluck reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donors plant a tree in her memory.
Mrs. Staggs-Saulsbury was born May 25, 1943, in Stibnite, Idaho.
In 1971, she moved to Alaska, briefly living in Anchorage until moving to Holitna River in 1974.
She moved to the Valley in 1984, maintaining homes in both the Butte area of Palmer and Chickaloon.
She attended UAA, in Mat-Su, for eight years, seeking to achieve her degree in psychology.
In the 1970s, she was an executive housekeeper for the Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage. Mrs. Staggs-Saulsbury enjoyed fishing, wildlife and bird-watching.
Her family wrote, "Sharon enjoyed outdoor activities - hiking, fishing and bird watching - as well as reading and using the computer.
"She liked art and craft activities, especially jewelry making and sewing."
Her father, Ezra Al Staggs, and mother, Adaline Staggs, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Staggs-Saulsbury is survived by her husband, Al Saulsbury of Palmer; sons, Rick Bayshore of Anchorage and Randy Bayshore of the Mat-Su; stepsons, Sean Saulsbury of Sedro Woolley, Wash., and Paul Saulsbury of Anchorage; stepdaughter, Chris Saulsbury of Boise, Idaho; brother, Warren Staggs of Chickaloon; sisters, Betty Schedin of St. George, Utah, and Verna Lopez of Oregon, and six grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
