She's not that Sarah Eaton

To the editor:

I have just noticed that my name (Sarah Eaton) appeared in your online publication under "Police Beat."

I can assure you that the "Sarah Eaton" referred to on your website is not me. I have never been arrested and I have never been in Alaska. We are, however, close in age and I live in Alberta - which is not unthinkably far from Alaska.

I understand that your information for this section of your publication may come from official police reports. Please be aware, however, that others with the same name may be affected by your reporting practices. The names of those arrested may show up in Google searches or via other online search engines.

Although "Sarah Eaton" is a fairly common name, I am dismayed that notices of arrest and disorderly conduct - with my name attached to them - appear in your paper.

I would encourage you to include more specific information about the people whose names you include in your "Police Beat" report. Including their middle names, place of residence or other very specific information would be ensure that those of us whose names are similar are not defamed in any way - and that you are not printing potentially libelous information.

I would appreciate if you would print a note in your paper stating that the Sarah Eaton mentioned in your "Police Beat" report is, in fact, someone else.

Dr. Sarah Eaton

Editor's note: The "Police Beat" notice Dr. Eaton references was published in the Jan. 10 edition of the Frontiersman and clearly states the subject of the report is a resident of Palmer.
