Sheep Mountain musher wins Northern Lights 300

BIG LAKE — Sheep Mountain’s Anjanette Steer won the inaugural Northern Lights 300 on Sunday.

Steer followed her team through the finish line at the Happy Trails Kennel in Big Lake at 12:50 p.m. to win the race. She finished 12 minutes ahead of runner-up Ray Redington of Knik.

Travis Beals, Nicolas Petit and Kelly Maxiner rounded the top five. Former Iditarod champion finished seventh.

The Northern Lights 300 led mushers from the Happy Trails Kennel to Yentna Station Roadhouse and back.

Big Lake musher wins Tustumena 200

Tustuemana 200

KENAI PENINSULA — Big Lake’s Cim Smyth used a late push to beat former Iditarod champion Jeff King and win the Tustumena 200 on the Kenai Peninsula Sunday.

Smyth finished the race in 22 hours, 26 minutes, seven minutes ahead of King.
