WASILLA -- A young Chickaloon man was shot in the shoulder Sunday afternoon when he stopped to speak to another man near the entrance to McDonald's in Wasilla.
Gordon Carvalho, 19, was taken to Valley Hospital, then to Anchorage for further care. He remains in critical condition.
Wasilla police reported the young man was with his mother at McDonald's when he was shot by suspects in a vehicle. No other information was known at the time, except the vehicle was described as possibly a silver, newer model sedan with dark tinted windows.
"There is not a lot of information on that case," said Wasilla Police Chief Don Savage. "[Carvalho] and his mother were at their vehicle. Carvalho waved at people in another vehicle."
Carvalho apparently went to speak to the passengers in the sedan, and was shot, Savage said.
Carvalho's mother said she didn't know the identity of the people in the other car. The victim has not yet provided police with information, if he has any, Savage said.
By Wednesday, Carvalho was listed as improving at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
Wasilla Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 352-5401, or to contact Mat-Su Crime Stoppers at 745-3333. Callers to Crime Stoppers do not have to give their name.
