The next session of the Winter Conservation Series is at 7 to 8:30 p.m., Jan 31 at Mat-Su College. This practical series of conservation topics is co-hosted by the Palmer and Wasilla Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Session description is as follows:
Living with Salmon: Shoreline Stewardship and Restoration Opportunities for Landowners features Amber Bethe, biologist, of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
Thousands of salmon-bearing water bodies can be found throughout the Mat-Su Borough.
If you live in the borough there’s a good chance you live near one of them. Waterfront landowners play a critical role as stewards of salmon habitat, as a salmon-friendly landowner you can make choices that minimize impacts to our rivers, streams and lakes.
This session will offer information about salmon and the habitat they need, how you can be a good steward of that habitat and restoration techniques for disturbed shorelines.
You will learn how to improve recreation access to and enjoyment of your waterfront and shoreline while protecting it from increased rates of erosion.
Valley examples of restoration projects will be showcased.
