Shots fired during Knik River argument

BUTTE — Early morning gunshots put a Chugiak man in jail Saturday, authorities said.

Steven Pugh, 38, approached a campsite in the Knik River Public Use Area about 5 a.m. and accused the campers there of stealing his folding chair and alcohol, according to Alaska State Troopers Dispatches.

An argument ensued, during which Pugh produced a handgun and shot the victim’s car — deflating a tire — and fired several shots into the air before fleeing the scene, troopers said.

Troopers later apprehended Pugh at Mile 26 of the Glenn Highway, and remanded him to Mat-Su Pretrial facility where he remained Saturday afternoon on $2,500 bail with third-party custodian requirements, authorities said.
