HATCHER PASS — Leif Johnson sped past the competition en route to winning the Solstice Sprints at Mountain Streams Bed and Breakfast near Hatcher Pass on Tuesday.
Johnson finished with an overall time of 7 minutes and 22 seconds to finish first in the event that featured a 1,200-meter classic sprint followed by a 1,200-meter freestyle sprint.
Johnson finished just less than a minute ahead of runner-up David Knopp, who clocked a total time of 8:18. Johnson was the lone skier to crack the four-minute mark in either race, and he managed to do it in both.
Tobin Sworts was third in the men’s class. Brice Muniz finished fourth, two-tenths of a second ahead of Fabian Bean.
Tracie Haan won the women’s class with her time of 10:37.52, holding nearly 20 seconds ahead of second-place Celie Hull.
Jasmin Johnson, Kristen Sworts and Anne Woodings rounded out the women’s top 5.
The event was hosted cooperatively by the Mat-Su Ski Club and Colony High School
