Skidoo sponsors free avalanche seminars

MAT-SU — October is a great time to tune up your skis, sleds and skills for recreating, traveling and working in the snow. Fall has arrived, and that means the white stuff is not far behind.

Thanks to support from Bombardier Recreational Products and Skidoo, the North America Outdoor Institute will offer a series of free avalanche awareness safety seminars presented in a fast-paced, fun format that makes it easy to learn or brush up on important life saving skills for traveling and recreating in mountain terrain.

Whether you’re new to Alaska and the idea of playing or traveling in the mountains or you’re a longtime veteran, the NAOI “Be Snow Smart” seminars have something for everyone.

“We make it fun to learn or refresh your skills by incorporating games and experiential lessons in our programs,” NAOI Education Director Dorothy Adler said. “Plus, BRP and ABS airbags are teaming up to provide some great incentives to help motivate people to invest in their personal safety education.”

This year everyone who attends will also receive a special coupon to attend a full-day workshop in the field and entered to win an ABS airbag, as well as other prizes.

These types of seminars would typically cost snowmobilers $50 or more to attend, but thanks to BRP’s sponsorship are free to owners of all brands of sleds.

Don’t ride? Don’t worry, the seminars are also open to anyone age 9 and up who travels, works or recreates in the mountains.

The seminars are fun and informative because instructors are true riders and professionals in their field. They deliver a message that snowmobilers understand and appreciate.
