Skiers compete in Mat-Su Icicle at Hatcher Pass

PALMER —More than two-dozen Nordic skiers competed in the Mat-Su Icicle classic and freestyle races at the Government Peak Recreation Area at the base of Hatcher Pass over the weekend.

The races, hosted by the Mat-Su Ski Club, featured 5, 10, 20 and 30-kilometer events.

Allan Spangler was among the big winners. Spangler used a time of 1 hour, 19 minutes and 32 seconds to take the 30-K freestyle on Saturday. The following day, Spangler finished first in the 30-K classic with a time of 1:33:34.
