PALMER — If you have something to say to the state about the proposed coal lease sale near Skwentna, you have until Wednesday to say it.
The deadline for commenting on the proposed 13,175-acre lease sale is Nov. 21. Comments can be mailed to Bill Cole at the Department of Natural Resources’ Mining Section, 550 W. 7th Ave., Suite 900B, Anchorage, AK 99501-3577; phoned in to 269-8648; or emailed to william.cole@alaska.gov.
The lease is 18 miles southwest of Skwentna. Alaska Energy Corp., wholly owned by CanAm Coal Corp. of Calgary, Canada, asked for the leases.
The company has operations in Alabama and rights to coal in Colorado.
The company isn’t the first to express interest recently in Valley coal. That honor goes to Usibelli Coal Mine. Also exploring here is Riversdale Alaska LLC, an Australian firm.
