PALMER -- The Colony Knights ran into a tough Skyview squad Friday night.
The Panthers defeated the Knights 15-5, 15-1, 15-4 in high school volleyball action at the Colony Gym.
The Knights were able to stay even with the Panthers early in the first game. The game stayed scoreless for a moment, as the two teams traded kills.
Colony took a 1-0 lead on a Skyview error, and the Knights tied the match moments later after a Skyview service error.
With the score again tied, Skyview went on a run, something that would become very common in the match.
Behind two kills by Jenny Carpenter and a massive block from Nyke Salverda, Skyview took a 5-2 lead.
A Zeenie Preston service ace brought the Knights back into the game, and within one point.
Ahead 5-4, Skyview went on another run, this time scoring six straight points. Consecutive Carpenter attack errors broke the scoring run for the Panters and cut the lead to 12-5.
Carpenter would rebound with three straight kills, helping Skyview notch the 15-5 win in game one.
Carpenter had seven kills in the first game alone.
Skyview was able to control the momentum easily in the second game.
The game included a Skyview five point run in which Laurel Creel notched a pair of service aces.
Carpenter led the Panthers with 13 kills, while Creel added 10 kills.
Amy Burns led the Knights with 16 digs and Preston added 10 digs. Preston also tallied nine assists.
"We have a communication problem on defense, it has been a big thing all season," Colony head coach Faith Scott said. "They had size but we have not been intimidated by size all year. They way we run our defense, we have to communicate"
