Slow your roll through the parking lots, please

To the editor:

I was backing out of a parking space at the Palmer Post Office recently when an older SUV came barreling through. He also had a handicap license plate and those people usually drive slower. Maybe he wasn’t handicapped, just driving a vehicle that belonged to a handicapped person.

It’s not new for people to race through parking lots, but it sure is dangerous. I happen to be a “what if” person. “What if” a child got away from a parent and ran into traffic? “What if” an old lady with a cane stepped out into traffic?

I used to remember something about 15 mph in parking lots, but cannot prove that by any means and yes, I called the police station and they don’t know for sure either.

There are also the drivers who race across the parking lots, not following any arrows, if they are visible, nor following the traffic patterns.

I sure wish you would all slow down a bit especially on these dark days and please put your headlights on. I know Alaska drivers can be more aware of others driving around us.
